Jean Prouvé never disguised the production process of his furniture. Weld seems were thus not smoothed off and the construction mainly responded to static considerations. Inspired by this approach, I tried to give an account of the production process through the design of the lamps instead of trying to obscure the process as it is common in industrial manufacturing. X Y and Z is a lighting series with joints that are connected through the simple method of crimping. The crimping does not only serve as a construction solution, but also constitutes a narrative feature of design. The shades are connected to right angle steel tube stands through a flexible magnetic ball-joint.
